Valley of Flowers Trek

About

Valley of Flowers is one the most popular treks, not only in India but across the world. Declared as UNESCO World Heritage site in 2002, this legendary trail has to be on every trekker’s bucket list. Valley of flowers can be defined as one of India’s oldest Himalayan treks. Hundreds of trekkers walk on this trail to witness nature’s ultimate creation – A valley flooded with flowers. Gurudwara Hemkund Sahib is another attraction on this trail which makes this trek even more popular especially for the Sikh community.

Best time to visit Valley of Flowers is from end of July till August. This is the only time during the year when flowering happens and one can experience entire valley flooded with flowers!

Itinerary

Day 1: Dehradun/Rishikesh – Joshimath/Govind Ghat (294 km – 10 hours)

Drive from Dehradun to Joshimath. Overnight in Joshimath

Day 2: Joshimath/Govind Ghat – Ghangharia (20km drive, 10km trek, 10500 ft.)

Drive from Joshimath to Govindghat (a small hamlet situated on the confluence of Alaknanda and roaring Laxman Ganga and start point for the trek). Govind Ghat to Ghangharia -10kms trek (base village for Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib) is a beautiful trek route with magnificent views and river accompanying you throughout. Hot lunch on the trek route. Late afternoon we arrive at Ghangharia on the banks of Laxman Ganga. Dinner and overnight stay in Ghangharia.

Day 3: Valley Day (8km trek, 11,550 ft)

Post early breakfast, you start your much awaited trek to Valley of Flowers. An easy walk, through lush green and spectacular landscapes, stunning views and blooming wild flowers.This day is a treat for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts. Valley stretches for about 10 km. It is up to you to explore as much as you can during the allocated time (Altitude- 3658 mtrs. Option to hire pony is NOT available as Valley is UNESCO World Heritage Site). After having packed lunch in the Valley, start your trek back to Ghangharia. Dinner and overnight stay at in Ghangharia.

Day 4: Ghangria – Hemkund Sahib – Ghangria (12kms trek, Altitude – 14,107 ft.)

Post early breakfast, start your trek to Hemkund Sahib – a Gurudwara at high altitude. Today’s trek is steeper as compared to previous day. The Sikh community worshipers will boost your morale with “Wahe Guru” chants. Upper ridges of the trek route are a spectacular sight with blooming “Brahma Kamals”- the state flower of Uttarakhand. Reach Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara and offer prayers (optional). Other highlights at the top are views of Himalayan peaks, ever-clear lake outside Gurudwara, natural hot springs and Laxman Mandir. Have packed lunch and start your trek back. Dinner and overnight stay in Ghangharia.

Day 5: Ghangharia – Govind Ghat/Joshimath (10km trek, 2 hour drive)

Post early breakfast, you start your downhill trek from Ghangharia to Govindghat. From Govindghat you drive to Joshimath.

Day 6: Drive from Joshimath to Rishikesh/Dehradun. (320km – 11 hour drive)

Drive from Joshimath to Dehradun. Trek ends.

  • Transfers by private vehicle – Tempo Traveller/Sumo cab to and from Dehradun – Joshimath.
  • 2 night accommodation in Joshimath, 3 Nights in Ghangaria (standard rooms on triple/four sharing basis)
