The Brahmatal Trek sits quietly in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, offering one of the most accessible and captivating winter trails in the Himalayas. At 12,250 ft (3,734 m), the trail combines the thrill of snow trekking with the calm beauty of alpine forests and high-altitude lakes.
Through oak, pine, and rhododendron forests, the route unveils stunning landscapes at every turn — from the peaceful Bekaltal Lake to the shimmering Brahmatal, frozen like a mirror under the winter sun. The summit offers commanding views of Trishul, Nanda Ghunti, Chaukhamba, and Nilkanth peaks.

Itinerary
Rishikesh / Dehradun → Lohajung (Drive 210 km | 9–10 hrs | 7,662 ft / 2,335 m)
● Elevation Gain: +1,800 m
● Depart early morning for Lohajung, the base village of the trek.
● Drive along the Alaknanda River via Devprayag, Rudraprayag, and Karnaprayag, witnessing the confluence of sacred rivers.
● Arrive by evening and settle into your guesthouse. Evening briefing and acclimatization walk.
● Overnight Stay: Lohajung (Guesthouse)
Lohajung → Bekaltal (Trek 6 km | 4–5 hrs | 9,690 ft / 2,953 m)
● Elevation Gain: +620 m
● The trek begins with a gradual ascent through forest trails of oak and pine.
● Stop at Gujreni for rest and lunch before heading toward Bekaltal, a serene lake nestled in the forest.
● In winter, the lake often freezes, reflecting the surrounding snow-laden trees.
● Overnight Stay: Bekaltal (Tents)
Bekaltal → Brahmatal (Trek 7 km | 5–6 hrs | 10,450 ft / 3,185 m)
● Elevation Gain: +495 m
● Continue your ascent through rhododendron forests opening to meadows with views of Mt. Trishul and Nanda Ghunti.
● Pass Jhandi Top, a scenic vantage point, before descending gently toward Brahmatal Lake.
● Set camp near the lake and enjoy a quiet evening surrounded by the frozen expanse.
● Overnight Stay: Brahmatal (Tents)
Brahmatal → Brahmatal Top (12,250 ft / 3,734 m) → Descend to Lohajung (Trek 11 km | 7–8 hrs)
● Elevation Gain: +1,295 m | Elevation Loss: -1,584 m
● Early morning summit push to Brahmatal Top for stunning sunrise views over the Garhwal peaks.
● From the ridge, witness Trishul, Nanda Ghunti, Chaukhamba, and Nilkanth glowing under snowlight.
● Spend time at the summit before descending gradually via Tilbudi to reach Lohajung by evening.

Lohajung → Rishikesh / Dehradun (Drive 210 km | 9–10 hrs)
● After breakfast, depart for Rishikesh or Dehradun.
